Weekend with the Family

So I missed posting on Thursday and Friday last week because my husband and I went out of town. We had pre-Thanksgiving with my family at Midway, Utah. I had never been to Midway before and was pleasantly surprised. Midway is up in the mountains past Park City. The hard thing about being around family, especially during the holidays, is not working out. My family is big on eating, we eat when we socialize, watch movies, and so on. This weekend was hard because we did not have a gym to go to and I was constantly snacking on something. Luckily my husband and I were able to go for a hike on Friday. It was beautiful day, sunny and warm. I felt tons better after hiking for, I believe we went 2 miles, an hour. Can I say I am so ready to have this baby and get fit again. I felt so out of shape hiking and then after our hike I was exhausted. A power nap later (30mins) I was feeling better.

This week I have vowed to do better (eat healthier, sleep better, exercise, and drink more water).

Peace

How Can I Help Someone With an Eating Disorder???

Last minute/spur of the moment, my husband and his friends decided to drive to California because their voting ballots were lost in the mail. I decided to go with them and get dropped off at my parent’s house near St. George, UT. It has been so good being home! My older sister (by two years) does not work on Mondays, so we were able to spend all Monday together. I could not help but notice that she has lost weight-she is already really skinny. When she was in high school, she developed an eating disorder. She would skip meals. Being the younger sister, I also developed an eating disorder because heaven forbid I weigh more than her. After high school I figured that we both had grown out of it. I had mostly accepted my body type and weight (I am 5’7″ and my comfortable weight is around 130-135). My sister is 5’4″ and I accepted the fact that she would always weight less than me. She left for 18 months on a service mission and I remember writing her and her telling me that her biggest fear was gaining weight. I learned after she came home that she would force herself to throw up after big meals (purge). She came home weighing less than she had when she left.

Since then she has lost even more weight. I asked her yesterday how much she weighed, just out of curiosity, she hesitated and then said 113. I am pretty sure she lied and weighs less. I have no idea what to do. She does not look healthy. I was talking to my mom and we are both worried that she is still purging and restricting her calorie intake. I have no idea how to confront her. If any one has any ideas please PLEASE let me know.

Supporting Family in Their Fitness Goals

Today my husband and I were able to skype his bother (Josh and soon-to-be fiance) in Hawaii. It was so great talking to them. Josh’s soon-to-be-fiance, Kei, is wanting to lose 30 lbs by March (their weeding month). I was so excited to talk to them about good nutrition and Herbalife. The great thing about Herbalife is that there aren’t restrictions set. My advice to Kei was to replace one to two meals a day with a meal supplement shake and protein shake. I advised her to eat every three hours with high protein snacks (nuts, protein bars, banana with peanut butter…). Our other advice was to stop eating out (it sounded like their favorite places to eat are Taco-Bell and McDonald). Our next advice was to replace simple carbs (white bread, pasta..) with more complex carbs (wheat bread, brown rice,…). Then to exercise, especially when losing weight because exercise will help to tighten skin. When losing a substantial amount of wight there is going to be excess skin.

I love being able to give people advice and to support them in their fitness goals, especially when it comes to family. I know how great I feel (even being very pregnant) and I love sharing that with others. Awe life is good.

Peace and Blessings!!
